Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Knight Alzheimer Disease Research Center is seeking an organized and motivated individual to join the biofluids processing team within the Fluid Biomarker Core laboratory. This position is responsible for a broad range of laboratory tasks needed to support Alzheimer disease and other biomedical research studies. Duties include human fluid biospecimen processing, basic laboratory equipment use and maintenance, and support of general quality control functions needed for laboratory operations. A successful candidate will have strong clerical accuracy, exceptional organization and time-management skills, and a solid understanding of basic computer applications Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities Isolation of nucleic acids from a variety of specimen sources (cells, tissue, bio-fluids) following Standard Operating Procedures relying on traditional solid-phase silica spin-column technology platforms or traditional liquid phase extraction techniques. Perform data entry into biospecimen inventory management system to track specimen processing, creation, storage, retrieval and distribution for many different cancer and other medical research projects. Perform general maintenance of equipment (e.g. centrifuge, freezers) and maintain thorough and detailed records of execution. Monitor and evaluate laboratory supplies to ensure consistent and adequate supply for laboratory activities, assisting with general supply orders. Participate in the On-Call program for monitoring storage equipment and environmental systems required for storage of biospecimens (non-business hours). Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions for biorepository activities defined in the TPC Quality Management System. Activities include review, revision and compliance with all laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other controlled documents, incident reporting and investigation, implementation of Corrective and Preventative Action (CAPA), maintenance of training records and compliance with all laboratory safety procedures. Working Conditions This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. Working knowledge of computer software. Experience working with and maintaining, standard laboratory equipment. Experience with standard processing techniques and good eye hand coordination. Strong computer skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Maintain complete and organized records. Exceptional time management skills, ability to multitask, trouble-shoot and work independently with appropriate guidance from Management. Position requires ongoing interaction with faculty, trainees and staff in the Siteman Cancer Center and Washington University School of Medicine. Candidate must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness and empathy for needs of scientific investigators and be able to communicate and represent the Tissue Procurement Core and Siteman Cancer Center in a professional matter. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent high school certification. Two years’ experience in a healthcare setting. Grade C06-H Salary Range $17.00 - $24.66 / Hourly The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
